Centre for Agribioscience (AgriBio) opening ceremony

The $288 million AgriBio centre was opened today with much fanfare.

With much pomp and ceremony, the Premier of Victoria, Dr. Denis Napthine today opened the $288 million Centre for Agribioscience (AgriBio) at La Trobe University in Bundoora.

This substantial facility will house 400 research scientists from La Trobe University and the Department of Primary Industries (DPI), including myself! I am rather looking forward to working in such an impressive building.

AgriBio was designed by Lyons Architects and has a 5-star environmental rating. It features state-of-the-art laboratory and office spaces as well as glasshouse facilities.

Today’s opening ceremony was attended by a large number of dignitaries including the Secretary of the Department of Primary Industries Mr. Jeff Rosewarne, the Vice Chancellor of La Trobe University Professor John Dewar, Minister for Agriculture Mr. Peter Walsh and the Premier.

After a number of speeches, the Premier and the Vice Chancellor jointly unveiled the plaque.

This new building is a real asset to the state as we work to improve Victoria’s agricultural production through science.
