Seminar: A History of Urban Development in Macleod

I will be giving a free seminar on Thursday 5 October 2023 about the development history of the Melbourne suburb of Macleod.

This presentation follows on from my February talk about the history of Macleod’s Dunvegen Estate and will be hosted by the Yarra Plenty Regional Library Service.

Macleod is a relatively small suburb in Melbourne’s north-east with a big history. It was once home to the Mont Park mental asylum and associated branch railway line. It is also home to some significant housing estates including the Victoria Cross Estate where the streets are all named after World War I Victoria Cross recipients. Macleod is home to a critically-endangered parrot and can even lay claim to being the point at which the Victorian Alps begin.

My seminar will focus on residential development in Macleod with a particular emphasis on twentieth century housing estates.

Come along to my talk at the Watsonia Library on Thursday 5 October 2023 from 6:30pm. The event is free but bookings are required.
